Melbourne man charged with murder after his dead brother and injured mother were found in Preston

A Melbourne man accused of killing his brother and stabbing his mother has been charged with murder and attempted murder after an alleged double stabbing.
Homicide investigators have charged Shaun Sanderson, 32, hours after police found the bodies of his brother and seriously injured mother in the north Melbourne suburb of Reservoir on Wednesday.
A manhunt had been launched after emergency services visited a house on Willoughby Street shortly after 8am after reports said someone had been allegedly attacked with a knife.
Police originally believed Sanderson was bunkered at the home and set up a perimeter to try to negotiate with him, but soon found he wasn’t there after barging inside.
He was tracked down six hours later near a busy intersection in the nearby suburb of Preston and arrested without incident.

Aerial footage showed Sanderson lying in the middle of an intersection with his arms behind his back, surrounded by police.
Sanderson is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
His mother, 65, was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries to her upper body.
Her other son, 29, died in the parking lot of a nearby hospital after running to get help.
Earlier, a team of heavily armed police officers attempted to negotiate with Sanderson, using a megaphone to tell him to come outside before realizing he wasn’t home.
Pam Egan, a Willoughby Street resident, told the Herald Sun she saw the seriously injured mother after the alleged attack.
“I heard she ran across the road to the hospital with blood,” Ms Egan said.

“I talked to (the family) before I went for a walk.
“They are a hardworking family…. They are builders, nice and always friendly.”
Ms Egan said the family have three sons and the youngest, in his 20s, has an intellectual disability.
Another neighbor said the street is usually “quiet and beautiful”.
“We heard the sirens this morning, my neighbor said it happened in the (hospital) parking lot,” said one woman.
