Before launching the NBA free company, Yahoo’s Chris Haynes reported that Miami Heat used to held a meeting by one of the league’s most sought-after free agents, Jalen Brunson. Many reports on Thursday suggested that Brunson didn’t actually have a meeting with Heat. The focus remains on the Knicks and Mavericks for his services.

While Heat didn’t have a meeting with Brunson, they did meet with one of the top liberals on their list, Udonis Haslem.

Meet the Heat with Udonis Haslem

On June 30, the Heat got ready with a team dispatched to the field early to bring in 42-year-old Udonis Haslem for 20.

“To demonstrate his continued importance and value to the franchise, the Miami Heat sent a staff delegation to invite free agents for Udonis Haslem as of 6 p.m. tonight in the hope of draw him back to the age of 20,” Tim Reynolds Report on Twitter.

Haslem is the definition of a Heat lifer and has been with the team throughout his 19-year professional playing career. During that time, Haslem was on three Heat championship teams. While he doesn’t make the same impact he once did on scores, his presence is much more than that. The Heat culture enforcer brings exceptional toughness to the Heat locker room.

The center has reduced playing time recently, appearing in just 13 games between 2021-22 while averaging 6.4 minutes and 2.5 points. While not a mainstay in Miami’s rotation, they have made it clear that the veteran has a spot on the team for as long as he wants.

The meeting and the gesture suggest that Heat wants to bring Haslem back, as it’s possible that the big guy hasn’t decided yet whether he will return or not.

“I’m going to take my time and sit down with my family, Pat, and Micky and talk about what’s next and where it’s going,” Haslem told reporters. “Now is the time to take a mental break and figure it out.”

The impact of Udonis Haslem

Haslem remains an important member and ambassador of Heat Culture. The big man is the main reason the team remains competitive despite having more than one rebuild. Dan Le Batard of the Miami Herald called Haslem a soldier of the Heat culture still patrolling the sideline for Pat Riley. Between Haslem, head coach Erik Spoelstra and Alonzo Mourning, they worked to keep the dream of being the culturally important Riley brought to South Beach. The culture has led the team to many titles and almost always after the season.

It’s Heat culture that causes players to associate with them, like Brunson, whom they don’t even have the money to sign and the player knows but still wants to join a meeting. Players benefit from being in Miami. Andre Igoudala emphasizes how Thermal Culture and examples like Haslem have made him a valuable player in this season’s championship hosted by the Golden State Warriors.
