Micah Richards lays claim to Leeds fans

Micah Richards got in touch The Daily Mail that none of the Leeds United fans he spoke to wanted the club to sack Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds recently sacked Bielsa as head coach and decided to name Jesse Marsch as his successor.

Former Manchester City and Aston Villa defender Richards, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and Sky Sports, is disappointed with the decision.

The pundit added that none of the Leeds fans he spoke to wanted Bielsa gone.

Richards wrote: “The mood in Leeds has changed this week. I know and speak to many Leeds fans and the devastation they feel at Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking is unbelievable. None of them told me it was the right decision. I totally agree.

“Leeds have been naïve at times under Bielsa and things have had to be tweaked defensively to stop the number of goals conceded but I’m convinced he would have stuck it out and if not they could have made a fresh start in the summer.

“I hope Jesse Marsch can keep them in the top flight.”

Big decision

In our view, Leeds had to do something as the results have been very poor over the last few weeks and months.

Even more worryingly, there was no sign that results would improve under Bielsa.

Yes, Leeds were unlikely to win against Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester United but they conceded 14 goals in those games and could have conceded more.

Now we know Bielsa is a legend at Leeds who wouldn’t even be in the Premier League without him.

However, football is a results business and Leeds bosses had to make the tough decision to let Bielsa go.
