Michael Beale and Steven Gerrard react as Rangers beat Braga in the Europa League

Rangers reached the semi-finals of the Europa League after beating Portuguese club Braga in extra time on Thursday night at the Ibrox. Both Michael Beale and Steven Gerrard responded on Instagram and applauded their old side.

Although Rangers played the entire second half against 10 men and Braga finished the game with nine, it took Rangers another 30 minutes to get over the line. James Tavernier equalized the 0-1 deficit from the first leg.

He did so within the first two minutes before Kemar Roofe bailed out a penalty just before half-time – Tavernier made it 2-0. But totally against the flow of play, Tormena headed in for Braga – putting it into extra time.

It was Roofe who scored the winning goal after a lovely pass from Joe Aribo – and the Gers progress to the last four where they meet German club RB Leipzig. Both Gerrard and Beale took to Instagram after watching Rangers win.

Beale and Gerrard react: Can Rangers go ahead and win the final?

Of the four who made it to the semis, Rangers are the weakest side – and most fans would agree with you. West Ham have players worth well over £50m. Frankfurt just beat Barcelona.

Leipzig, who meet Rangers in the semi-finals, are a team on the rise after a disappointing start to the season. It’s easy to say they are below Dortmund, but that’s because of such a bad start.

A change of manager has worked at Leipzig and they’re pushing into the top three – with third-placed Leverkusen a point ahead of them.
