Michael Flatley is diagnosed with an ‘aggressive’ form of cancer

Michael Flatley has revealed he has been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of cancer in a statement shared to his social media accounts tonight.

According to the press release, the Riverdance star, 64, has had surgery and is currently being cared for by a team of doctors at the hospital.

The statement shared on Flatley’s Instagram page reads: “Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

“He underwent surgery and is being cared for by an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time. We only ask for your prayers and good wishes. Thank you. Team Lord.’

The Lord Of The Dance star revealed he had been diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer before Christmas.

It is currently unknown if the diagnosis is related to his treatment for skin cancer when he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in 2003.

Following the news, fans rushed to send messages of support to the American-Irish dancer, with one person writing that they were “sending prayers”.

A second said: “I’m so sorry to read this message. Michael you are a fighter you can beat this by sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family.

Another person said: “Keep fighting Michael, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family xx. Move your feet X.”
