Michael Harriot calls Van Jones a “liar” and releases Apology Audio

Twitter struck VanJones on Thursday, after Jacob Kornbluh said Jones had apologized to the Jewish community “for the silence of my community.” The self-appointed spokesman for the black cause? That didn’t go over well. Writer Michael Harriot wrote an opinion piece to the the trio call him, “apologetically black.”

Kornbluh then retracted his original tweet and apologized to Jones. A source close to the situation told The shadow room “Van was completely misquoted by a random live tweeter at a fundraiser.” Jones accepted the apology and tweeted a response to the backlash.

“If I said black people don’t hold Kanye/Ye accountable, that would be a lie – because zillions of us have condemned Ye. Let’s stick together and be louder against hate,” Van wrote on Twitter.

Hours later, Harriot shared an audio clip and transcript the speech by Van Jones.

As we initially reported, Jones began with an apology. But the full quote was “I will begin with an apology for my community’s silence and for my profession’s speaking out.”

He said the black community “expected and insisted that everyone stand up and yell back at hate” after this “Anti-Black bigotry and racism the world has seen on video.”

Then he said the blacks did it “rationalized” and answered “not with a roar, but often with barely a squeak and sometimes a shrug” to the “Wave of Hatred” Building against the Jewish community. Vans said the result of the silence was an African-American icon that Huilter generalized about. Although Vans did not name Ye in this particular instance, he later began a chant.

“And I want to be very clear: when it was a drip, we didn’t turn it off. And now it’s a flood. And I want to tell you, I apologize for the silence in my community. The silence is over. And I want to say to Kanye that I know: Ye, ney! Yes No! Yes No! Yes No! No more, no more, no more.”

The full transcript and audio is available on eJewish Philanthropy.

Van Jones has not responded to the full audio release. However, Harriot brought another small message to Jones.
