Michael Kable, Maitland Grossman High Teacher, makes shocking confession to alleged fight

A high school teacher accused of a fight with a student admits he “did the wrong thing” – as pictured with a large bandage around his wrist.
Michael Kable, 62, was struck by a suspected warrant of violence on Tuesday night and charged with mutual assault after a student at Maitland Grossman High School near Newcastle was allegedly attacked in the industrial arts teacher’s classroom.
Video of the altercation surfaced online and allegedly showed Mr Kable grabbing the student by the collar of his shirt and dragging him across a table – before a student threw furniture at him.
On Thursday morning, Daily Mail Australia spoke to Mr Kable outside his home in a small suburb outside Newcastle.
Mr Kable appeared remarkably calm for someone who was on bail, is due to appear in court next month and is at the center of a media storm. Mr Kable insisted there are two sides to every story and known lawyers had advised him not to speak.
“At the end of the day, I did the wrong thing,” he said.

Mr Kable said he was grateful for the support he’s received online – more than 5,000 people signed a Change.org petition claiming the video had been taken out of context, he was being “slandered” and regularly physically and verbally abused students.
Mr Kable, his family nearby and have been looking for him – but took responsibility for what happened.
“It’s nice to see there’s support,” he added.
“But I put myself in this situation.”
He also said dealing with troublesome students was “just part of the lesson” and dismissed widespread rumors in the local community that his tires had been slashed.
A second video of the alleged brawl surfaced on Wednesday night, showing Mr Kable in the moments leading up to the alleged incident.
The footage showed the teacher holding a handful of paper balls, which appeared to have been thrown at him by the student during class.
Then the teacher is heard saying, “Do you understand me? Stop it” before the student tosses him another ball of paper.
The video then shows students yelling at the teacher before a table is thrown at him.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Maitland Grossmann High School for comment as the Department of Education investigates.
“We do not condone the behavior of the boys,” the teen’s mother told Nine News on Wednesday.
“That doesn’t change the fact that a teacher never has the right to lay hands on a student.”
A high school parent said she was “appalled” by the video and wanted to send her child somewhere else.
“We saw the video yesterday, our daughter got it circulated on social media,” she said.
“We are now looking for other schools for her.
“It’s scary, what if that was my little girl?”

A petition was launched to support Mr Kable after he was charged with a common assault and received a violent arrest warrant
A petition was started on Change.org around 10pm Tuesday night, claiming that the video does not show the full context of what happened in the classroom.
“Throughout his career, Mr. Kable has suffered numerous and countless verbal and physical abuses at the hands of students,” claims an anonymous petitioner.
“But because of the weak and inconsistent school punishment system, they only get a ‘slap on the hand’ as punishment.
The petitioner then claimed that students were intentionally getting into trouble to get time off school through a suspension.
The petition nearly reached its goal of 1,000 signatures in less than 24 hours after surpassing its original goal of 500 on Wednesday.
