Michael Rudman approached Mons Venus with gun and mask: cops

Three security guards prevented a masked gunman from entering a strip club early Sunday morning, according to surveillance footage released by police in Tampa, Fla.
Local police officers identified the suspect as Michael Marko Rudman, 44, and said it was unclear why he attempted to enter Mons Venus armed and wearing a mask.
In a press statement and court documents, authorities allege Rudman arrived in a silver pickup truck at around 1:15 a.m
Wearing a red and black devil mask and the words “kill” and “darkk [sic] One” on his arms he walked to the entrance, authorities said. He was holding a Glock 9mm pistol and a flashlight, they said.
“He left the vehicle in the parking lot, not pulled it into a parking space,” prosecutors wrote in a request for remand. “He exited the vehicle in a red and gray shirt [t-shirt] with skulls, red and gray camouflage pants, and a red and black satanic mask covering his entire face. He exited the vehicle with a loaded Glock 9mm in his right hand. He immediately went to the main entrance of the strip club.”
But as the video shows, a man grabbed him at the scene. This man was identified by WTVT as Manuel “Manny” Anthony Resto, a guard for Mons Venus.
“When a security guard at the venue saw the gun, he charged the suspect and knocked the gun out of his hand,” officials said. “During the incident, a single bullet from the suspect’s gun hit the front door of the venue. Nobody was injured in the hall. One of the three security guards involved was slightly injured in the ensuing altercation with Rudman.”
Footage showed the shooter walking towards the entrance. The man identified as Resto grabbed him and the men fought back.
“I knew I was fighting for my life,” Resto said, according to WTVT.
As seen in the video, the shooter dropped a pistol, which Resto soon picked up and pointed at the suspect. The suspect continued to approach him and lunged at him just as his pants appeared to be starting to slide down his legs. Resto managed to spin and essentially bring the suspect down with one hand. Two other men helped him subdue the suspect.
“We did what we do. That’s all,” one of those men, security guard Daniel Baham, later said in a press conference with Resto and police. “Everyone who works there, as Manny said, is our family.”
“The first thing that came to my mind was what happened in Orlando at Pulse and that these two were here to take this heroic action – could they have prevented something like this?” said interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw, in the press conference. “I definitely think so, and we’re grateful.
Omar Mateen, who declared his allegiance to ISIS via 911 audio, entered the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016 and opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, killing 49 and wounding 53. The police killed him.
Rudman’s motive is unknown, police said. Officers claimed Rudman had visited Mons Venus the night before.
Police officers said they arrived at the scene and found ammunition, knives and firearm accessories in Rudman’s truck. They also claimed to find two fully loaded magazines in his pocket. He is said to have owned a total of three magazines.
“One of the magazines had 7 live rounds and the other two were fully loaded with 17 rounds each,” prosecutors wrote. “Approximately nine (9) knives and firearm accessories were located in the defendant’s vehicle.”
Police said he faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and purchasing, possessing or receiving a firearm while under a risk protection order. Regarding the latest charges, prosecutors said a risk protection order was served on Rudman on October 19, 2022 in Pinellas County, Florida. It would last until October 20th. The document prohibited him from possessing any weapons or ammunition.
“There is no question that the heroic actions of the security forces who disarmed this suspect saved dozens of lives and I am grateful that our officers were able to take this individual into custody before he had a chance to carry out what.” she had planned. ‘ said interim chief Lee Bercaw. “We will continue to actively and thoroughly investigate this case to better understand what led to this foiled incident.”
