In recent years, Leeds United have built a reputation for being one of the fittest teams in England.
Indeed, after years of training under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds’ fitness standards have been absolutely immense so, as you can imagine, pre-season training in West Yorkshire is grueling.
The Whites returned from their holidays earlier this week and one of the first drills on the program was the dreaded bleep test.
Players had to complete shuttle runs at increasing speeds and were eliminated from the challenge if they didn’t reach their marker before the beep.
The Leeds players were brilliant in that test but there could only be one winner and interestingly, a video posted to Leeds’ YouTube channel showed that Jamie Shackleton was the man who clinched victory for the Whites.
With the likes of Robin Koch and Jack Harrison dropping out, Shackleton stayed to the end and received a well-deserved round of applause for his efforts.
This was a repeat of last season’s result as Leeds tweeted this time last year that Shackleton was actually the top performer at this exercise in 2021.
Being one of the fittest players on one of England’s fittest teams is no easy feat and what makes that even more spectacular is the fact that Shackleton have had a rather light schedule of late.
In fact, Shackleton has only played once since Jesse Marsch was appointed Leeds manager and came off the bench against Brighton in May, but perhaps the United boss would be wise to use the 22-year-old more often after showing his immense stamina has the first day of training in the pre-season.
In other news, Rangers Table are offering to bring a teenager to Ibrox – but Celtic have also made a bid
