HGTV host Mina Starsiak Hawk takes fans into one of the toughest times of their lives. in one Instagram story from March 6ththe Good Bones host shared, “The video I took after being told I would never do it [my 2-year-old daughter] Charlie without [an] Egg donors in December 2019…..]”.

The video shows Starsiak Hawk behind the wheel of her parked car, crying while speaking to the camera.

“I just had my post-IVF round of consultation and there are pretty much no options for me other than adopting or using an egg donor because I’m running low on eggs left and those who can have them – even those who I don’t think I got round right from the start and probably never would,” Starsiak Hawk said. The news came as a shock after the television personality gave birth to her first child, Jack, 4, with relatively little trouble.

“So now we just have to decide whether we want to wait and do nothing, or whether we want to start egg donation, or think about adoption, or just have Jack, which is great, but it’s just difficult. For example, I built this big house for our family and kids and there’s just a lot to think about. Yes, it is,” Starsiak Hawk said, abruptly ending the video.

That didn’t stop the host from having baby number two as soon as doctors allowed. “I wanted Irish twins, I wanted them to be less than 12 months apart. So we started pretty straight after I was allowed to have sex again, which I think is about six weeks.” After some time had passed, Starsiak Hawk began having tests done to determine why she wasn’t like that the second time around got pregnant quickly.

After learning that she was running low on eggs, Starsiak Hawk began laying eggs IVF processthe she documented on camera for HGTV. After one round of IVF, her doctor told her that without an egg donor, the chances of success were very slim.

After IVF treatments didn’t work for her, Starsiak Hawk got a second opinion from another doctor who suggested she try it IUI, an artificial insemination treatment. Starsiak Hawk found the treatment had worked and she was pregnant in a gas station toilet during her lunch break from filming Good Bones.

Starsiak Hawk recalled having to go to her doctor for the first ultrasound, unsure if there would be a heartbeat given her fertility struggles up to that point. Describing her decision to have a camera crew film the ultrasound, she said, “The whole point of it – being on the show, having the platform, doing the podcast – is sharing it all and giving people the true story to tell.”

Luckily there was a heart attack and Starsiak Hawk was able to carry the pregnancy to term. “That was Charlie and the rest is history,” Starsiak Hawk said.
