Hosting an HGTV show is no easy task. Along with all the usual work involved in renovating a home, you need to be able to confidently and clearly transfer all the information into a camera. So for hosts like Mina Starsiak Hawk who produce or air multiple shows simultaneously, it doesn’t take long for the schedule to fill up and the host to be busier than ever.

Speaking to Heavy recently, Starsiak Hawk opened up about what it was like working on Good Bones season 7 and her own spin-off show Good Bones: Risky Business while her mom was working on her own spin-off show Special works “Good Bones: Better Yard”. With all three projects coming to an end, Starsiak Hawk also revealed what their schedule currently looks like and how much downtime the host and mom will actually be getting this holiday season.

Mina Starsiak Hawk looks forward to a ‘little break’

Mina Starsiak Hawk told Heavy that while she films her shows year-round and won’t have a proper break from filming this winter, she’s looking forward to shorter and quieter days of filming.

“Honestly, for me, the day-to-day life between a live season and a non-live broadcast is the same because we film all year round. We never stop filming,” Starsiak Hawk said. “It gets less intense in the winter because we can’t film when the sun isn’t shining, so it makes our days a little shorter, which is a little break.”

She calls it “not really a break, but kind of a break.”

Starsiak Hawk has also recently been hard at work on a new podcast and announced the podcast’s name as “Mina AF”. Although no details have yet been announced as to when the show will premiere, Starsiak Hawk taped at least the first two episodes, one with her husband and one with her plastic surgeon.

“I don’t think I could have lasted another month”: Mina Starsiak Hawk on Good Bones: Risky Business

Starsiak Hawk also spoke about her spin-off, Good Bones: Risky Business. The presenter previously opened up about the challenges of filming “Risky Business” and working on the property with a new team, as she usually works with family members and a tight-knit team on “Good Bones,” but had to fall back on a new one Team renovating Risky Business.

Now, Starsiak tells Hawk Heavy that she was still working on Good Bones throughout the production of Risky Business, and she’s very happy to have ticked that offshoot off her to-do list by saying Heavy : “We have so much at once. [While season 7 of ‘Good Bones’ was still in production and airing] We did season 8, I did my spinoff, Mom did hers, and just having the Risky Business spinoff off my plate was… I don’t think I could have lasted another month. That was really draining emotionally and mentally towards the end, so we’re kind of in a lull where there’s still construction and we’re still filming, but we don’t necessarily have any revelations on the immediate horizon, where it’s really starting to get stressful will.”
