Little Minions are at it again and have been topping the box office, grossing around $128 million for Minions: Rise of Gru for its first opening weekend.
According to Variety, the popular animated film will be the first film to do as much filming over the July 4th holiday weekend.
Top Gun: Maverick still holds a solid spot at number two after its premiere last weekend in May, while Elvis lags behind the rest at number three after being number one last weekend.

Minions: Rise of Gru was originally set to premiere two years ago, but due to the pandemic, the big release date has been pushed back and promotion is already in the works.
Even after the two-year delay, the film still managed to set in-box records for the holiday weekend.

Around 89% of viewers who watched the animation were under the age of 25, with the 13-17 age range accounting for a large portion of that percentage, Deadline reported.

The publication added that Universal Domestic Distribution Boss Jim Orr stated that one of the main reasons for the film’s ultimate success during its opening weekend was due to the film itself.

The premise of the animation follows young Gru and his goal of becoming the world’s greatest supervillain. Some actors who voice characters in the film are Steve Carrell, Julie Andrews, Russell Brand, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Taraji P. Henson.
