A Texas man allegedly strangled his mother after she refused to let him drive her car, Houston police said.
Miroslav Liliev Mishev, 30, is charged with the murder of Lilia Misheva, 69. Her body was discovered in an apartment on Stella Link Road in the late morning hours of March 2, according to the Houston Police Department.
Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department were the first to find the slain woman, the HPD said, and then officers arrived.
According to the HPD, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that Misheva was murdered by strangulation.
Earlier this month, the grim discovery of the woman’s body was made public by the HPD, although her cause and manner of death were reportedly unknown, according to local ABC affiliate KTRK.
Specific details about the resulting investigation into the murder are scarce at this time, but police claim Misheva was killed in direct response to the dispute that gave her son access to her car.
“Further investigation revealed that Miroslav Mishev killed his mother Misheva after she refused to give him her car,” the HPD said in a press release. “Miroslav fled the scene, taking his mother’s car, a 2015 Honda Civic, a wallet and her cell phone. He was later arrested at a traffic stop by Sutton County Sheriff’s deputies in Sonora, Texas.”

Charges against the defendant were filed on March 9th.
Mishev is currently being held in the Sutton County Jail – well over 350 miles west of where he allegedly killed his mother. The defendant is currently awaiting extradition to Houston, police said.
A mug shot of Mishev is currently unavailable. The third-party provider, which serves law enforcement in at least 30 Lone Star state counties, is currently offline, an error message said. However, the HPD included the defendant’s driver’s license photo in its Friday press release.

According to HPD, Mishev faces murder charges in the 183rd District Court. The case file has yet to be released.
The defendant and his mother have had tussles in the past, and Mishev’s logbook has some red flags pointing to the latest allegations.
In August 2019, the deceased woman applied for a protection order against her son. That order was later dismissed at his own request less than a month later, court filings reviewed by Law&Crime show.
In October 2017, the defendant was subpoenaed for allegedly speeding in a school area for a traffic violation, court documents show.

In 2021, he was the subject of a driver’s license suspension hearing that has been repeatedly postponed.
The subject of this hearing was, as an affirmative statement shows, “to the request of the [Texas Department of Public Safety] and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Medical Advisory Board to provide medical information or to undergo medical or other investigations to determine so [Mishev’s] physical or mental ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.”
Due to COVID-19, Mishev only had to show up for this hearing via Zoom. However, according to Harris County, he never showed up and his license was revoked by default in October 2021.
