Moreno is backing a £50m star to join forces with Jesus at Emirates

Ale Moreno has claimed it would be ‘great news for Arsenal’ if Lucas Paqueta could join Gabriel Jesus on the home stage. as he told ESPN.

The TV pundit added that Paqueta is a player you “have to watch a few times to really appreciate what he’s doing”.

The Lyon midfielder is on the transfer radar of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, with a £50m tag that appears to have been smacked on his head.

Mikel Arteta has already strengthened his midfield this summer following the arrival of Fabio Vieira from Porto, left footed more in the form of Martin Odegaard.

Someone like Paqueta is more versatile and would have the opportunity to play with another attacking player like Odegaard as Moreno shared his thoughts on the player and those Arsenal connections.

“I like him,” Moreno said. “But I think he’s a player that you have to see a few times to really appreciate all the things that he does.

“His ability to work between the lines. He does that very well. But to do that he needs the freedom, and that flexibility is something that would suit a player like Lucas Paqueta.

“Except for Gabriel Jesus, they have a very good connection when they play together with Brazil. Lucas Paqueta plays on the inside and usually Gabriel Jesus plays on the outside.

“They have a very good understanding and seem to be connecting very well with Brazil, could they do that with Arsenal? Well that would be great news for Arsenal too.”

A Brazilian theme is building up in North London, with Marquinhos and Jesus, the latest South American stars arriving this summer.

When the Gunners put down the money for someone like Paqueta, he could argue he’s going straight into the club’s midfield.

When Arsenal suffered injuries or suspensions last season, the void left by the first-team stars was quite apparent, costing the team on several occasions.

Paying the hefty fee like they did for Vieira and now possibly Paqueta will surely further enhance the squad Arteta has at his disposal and put further pressure on his shoulders next season.

If he fails to secure Champions League football next season, it would not be a surprise if the exit door was opened for him by the board members.
