The news for The Witcher on Netflix just keeps getting worse. First there was the revelation that Henry Cavill will be leaving the show after the conclusion of the upcoming third season to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. Now looking like a spin-off of the original series, The Witcher: Blood Origin is the lowest-rated original program on Netflix to date.
With 45 (1.3 user score) and 32% (13% audience score) on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, respectively, it’s clear this show is disliked by fans and critics alike. This is clearly not a case of a single group of loud voices trying to drown out an otherwise good show as both scores are so low.
Both critics and everyday viewers seem to agree that pretty much everything in Blood Origin looks pretty rough and ready, with acting quality being the only redeeming factor. However, the good acting falls far short of making up for what many reviewers seem to say, shoddy VFX, a scattered story and poor writing.
With multiple streaming shows being canceled, like Netflix recently shut down the suspense-packed 1899, it’ll be interesting to see if Blood Origin survives the year. Of course, the show has the benefit of being a four-episode miniseries, and fans of The Witcher franchise are engaged.
That’s a light at the end of the tunnel if you like The Witcher show. Most reviews say that Blood Origin is worth checking out, at least for hardcore fans. On the other hand, you always run the risk of upsetting the hardcore fans by posting content that the masses perceive as sub-par.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is available to stream in full on Netflix now.
