New Pike Road High School update due to rising resident taxes

Pike Road residents will receive increased property tax bills after voting in October 2021 to increase taxes to build the city’s new high school. But a year later, taxes were increased, but no structure is in sight.

The Pike Road Board of Education announced its plan to build a new high school back in 2021, citing the need to expand the school’s facilities to accommodate the city’s growth rate. Now, almost two years later, with no visible construction work on a school, residents are wondering where their money is going?

The Pike Road Board of Education says the original $19 million was not enough to meet the needs to build the new high school. $19 million represents $55 million the school board was able to raise, which was not enough to build the required size high school.

Through a partnership with the BOE and the city of Pike Road and a trust, the BOE was able to secure $98 million and has worked with an architect to ensure that the new school will stand for many years to come.

More information about the design and location of the new high’s schools will be announced Oct. 19 during the State of the School address on Pike Road.
