“We have to win this challenge at close range”

In Episode 3 of “Survivor 42,” the orange Taku tribe had shrunk to four after Jackson Fox was emotionally evacuated from the game on Day 3 and Marya Sherron was eliminated on Day 5 in the following episode.

the secret scenetaking place on Day 7 features the four remaining members of Taku – Jonathan Young, Maryanne Oketch, Lindsay Dolashewich, and Omar Zaheer – Checking out this day’s tree mail to read about the upcoming immunity challenge. All fellow tribesmen agree that going to the tribal council would be disastrous for them. For one, Taku is the smallest tribe at this point: they are four to Ika’s five and Dad’s six (they will remain the smallest tribe in Episode 4 as both Ika and Dad will have 5 now), so in such a small tribe, There are far fewer targets than normal. On top of that, they’ve all developed an incredibly close bond and can’t afford to lose one of their own.

Maryanne also hinted that the four intended to advance as a group once they achieved fusion.

“Right now,” Maryanne said in the clip, “I honestly feel like we have to win this challenge, up close and to the point. We have no other option. The four of us are so united and don’t want to cannibalize ourselves, we all want to make it to the merger and we all want to move forward. So we must win.”

“We must [win]’ agreed Omar while speaking to Maryanne. “There is no choice.”

What Maryanne failed to mention was that she temporarily lost her voice due to the caution advantage she found earlier in the episode. To complicate matters further, Omar later lost his own vote because he chose to “gamble” his vote at the summit. This will no doubt play a big part in Episode 4; if taku does have to go to Tribal, only two people – Jonathan and Lindsay – will even be able to vote.

Their close bond is further evidenced by the fact that Maryanne chose to share not only the extra voice she received from the summit in episode 1 with the other three, but also how she told them she was her had lost voice, possibly up to the merger. Apparently, she considers at least the other three to be very close allies.

Commenting on the cryptic note regarding the challenge, Jonathan said, “I hope it’s the water.”

As viewers of the episode will remember, Taku ended blowing the other two tribes out of the water, this immunity challenge (almost literally), in large part due to the strength of Jonathan, who literally carried the rest of the tribe on his back from the water to the shore. There he promptly completed the rest of the challenge and saved her from the tribal council, at least for that night.

The other two tribes fought in the water for the next 22 minutes, and the production finally decided to let them stop and go straight to the land portion of the challenge.

Taku is the only tribe that stands united

The unity of the Taku 4 stands in stark contrast to Vati – whose five remaining members have just endured an arduous, contentious and deeply divided tribal council that almost ended in a rock tie – and Ika – who appear to be divided between the older and younger members , a division often exacerbated by the chaos caused by the young and duplicitous Tori Meehan. It almost seems like once the reunion occurs, the rest of Daddy and Ika will inevitably feel no loyalty to their former tribe. It looks like that won’t be the case with Taku.

If Survivor 42 continues to play out like 41, there will be two more pre-merge immunity challenges. After that, the “Fake Merge” comes into effect, with half of the 11 remaining participants safe, but all going to Tribal together; This is also where the hourglass twist comes into play. If Taku’s (namely Jonathan) strength persists, they only need to win two more immunity challenges to make it to the merge (or at least the fake merge).

What do you think? Once they achieve fusion, will Taku really be able to stay united even if they win the next two immunity challenges? Could they really be the last 4? Only time can tell.
