New York teacher who manipulated fifth graders called students ‘sexist little kids’

The New York teacher who allegedly manipulated a fifth-grade girl into changing her pronouns once called her students “sexist little kids” in class, according to a former student.

A former male student, who remained anonymous, came forward at a school board meeting Monday to speak about Long Island teacher Debra Rosenquist’s controversial past at Terryville Road Elementary School.

The student was one of several speakers at the board meeting, commenting on a recent lawsuit citing Rosenquist, in which she alleges calling a former fifth grader “Leo” and using him/her pronouns in class in October 2021 .

Speaking about his own experience with Rosenquist, the former student recalled that the teacher “targeted him.”

“One time, I think there were boys in the class and girls in the class and they hung out,” the student said. “She yelled at the whole class that we’re all little sexist kids.”

Speaking about his own experience with Rosenquist, the former student recalled that the teacher “targeted him.” He said, “She was yelling at the whole class that we’re all little sexist kids.”

The student said he was hurt by Rosenquist’s comments because his best friend was a girl.

“Why would she do that to me, I was just a kid,” he said. “That touched me and made me very upset.”

When the student was in Rosenquist’s class is unclear.

Meanwhile, other parents opened up about the details of the recent lawsuit over the coed’s forced pronoun change in 2021.

The gender change remained unknown to the girl’s parents until 2022, when she was caught drawing a picture of a suicidal girl with the words “I want to kill myself.”

The child, whose identity is being protected, then met with a district psychologist – and told her she was confused about her gender identity.

The new revelations shocked the child’s parents – who welcomed their teenage daughter as she explored her identity – but believed she was coerced.

They said they’d heard their child named Leo by their friends before, but it was in “allusion to the zodiac sign” and not related to the masculine name.

That’s when the parents thought something was wrong – and decided to look into Rosenquist. They noted that on one day when the school asked students and teachers to wear blue to support two recently shot police officers, the teacher wore a Black Lives Matter t-shirt instead.

They also found that Rosenquist had allegedly been reported to the school district for physical abuse, but because of her position as a staff teacher, nothing was done about it.

Rosenquist also allegedly read from LGBT books that weren’t on the school district’s curriculum and urged her students to “try to be gay,” even if they weren’t.

Superintendent Jennifer J. Quinn and Principal Annemarie V. Sciove both admitted to parents at a February 2022 meeting that they knew Rosenquist was peddling that mentality in the classroom, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit states, “Parents of Rosenquist’s former students alleged that Rosenquist went beyond the district curriculum and taught their students about transgender people and suggested that the children ‘try to be gay’ or try to to be a boy (if you were a girl) or a girl (if you were a boy)

“Rosenquist pursued her own extracurricular agenda, which included convincing her 5th grade students to try to be gay or the opposite sex even if they weren’t.

She even created her own LGBT book called “I am Weder” – which she had in her classroom.

A parent advocate named Tom expressed frustration with Rosenquist, arguing that students should be a certain age before learning about gender and sexuality.

“I’m not saying certain things shouldn’t be taught in certain age groups, but when we’re dealing with kids in the single digits, we shouldn’t be in those places,” Tom said, according to the New York Post.

“That doesn’t mean we don’t tolerate people’s differences, because we absolutely should tolerate people’s differences, but it doesn’t mean we have to accept people’s values, which are different from our own.”

“There is a difference between tolerance and acceptance. Being pushed into areas or shoving an agenda down our children’s throats is not what we should be doing.
