Newcastle United continue to pursue Benfica striker Darwin Nunez – and it looks like they are willing to spend big money on the Uruguayan.
Portuguese newspaper claims record compensation that Newcastle are preparing to keep going higher and higher in their attempt to take down Nunez.
Agent Edgardo Lasalvia is said to be keen for the striker to make a big move this summer despite signing a five-year contract in 2020.
Nunez seems ready and waiting for his next big move, and Newcastle want to make sure they win the race.
The problem for Newcastle is Correio da Manha there’s also an update on Nunez and they claim Benfica is increasing their asking price.
Having previously sought a fee of around €60m (£50m), Benfica are now poised to increase that to around €80m (£67m).
Benfica seems to know that Newcastle are ready to pay any price to bring Nunez to Tyneside, and as a result they are driving the price up.
West Ham think they have agreed a deal on the last day of January to sign Nunezbut this move did not materialize.
That means Newcastle could still stumble at the end of the season, but Benfica is looking to capitalize on their hefty asking price.
Nunez, 22, has been outstanding this season, scoring 23 goals and providing two assists in 27 games in all competitions.
Played in front or outside, Nunez is a complete nuisance with great speed, power and work rate.
Newcastle seem to be convinced Nunez can succeed in the Premier League, following in the footsteps of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
