Newcastle United and Tottenham have missed out on the signing of French midfielder Corentin Tolisso, with the former Bayern Munich star set to sign for Lyon this week.
According to RMC Sportthe 27-year-old is undergoing medicals ahead of his return to his youth side with the French club, with Newcastle and Tottenham being just a few of the many Premier League sides who will miss out on Tolisso’s signing following his decision to move back to Lyon.
Arsenal and Liverpool were also reportedly interested in Tolisso, as well as Manchester United, but the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has opted for a move to Lyon after being sacked by Bayern after five years at the Bundesliga giants.
With a reported Wage of £115,000 a week, it makes sense why Bayern were willing to sack Tolisso at the end of his contract last season given the midfielder is regularly on the treatment table and has had very few good moments in his stint with the German side had with the club.
Despite being labeled A ‘dangerous’ player, Tolisso is set to sign for Lyon with his reputation at stake as the midfielder looks to return to the form that made the former Ligue 1 star such a sought-after talent, much to the dismay of the Premier League -clubs.
While the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham have missed out on Tolisso, there’s no denying the midfielder made the right choice in signing Lyon from an English side. The French club are the perfect environment for the 27-year-old to return to his best.
Signing for Lyon is just what Tolisso needed this summer
Tolisso once had the potential to become one of Europe’s best midfielders, but like many non-German players who join FC Bayern, that hope quickly faded as the Frenchman became just another failed project with many trophies adorning his CV and why this return to Lyon is so exciting.
The midfielder joins his youth club at the peak of his powers and with Lyon also signing Alexandre Lacazette the French giants have the potential to achieve something special next season if Tolisso gets back to his form.
