According to the report, Newcastle were looking to sign Lingard from Premier League rivals Manchester United in the January transfer window.
There was no movement.

Lingard is without a contract at Manchester United at the end of the season.
Could Jesse Lingard join Newcastle United?
In our opinion, Lingard could leave Manchester United for Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old’s contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season, and it is clear that he will leave Old Trafford as a free agent.
Lingard has been struggling for game time all season so far and that’s not going to change in the final weeks of the season.
Which has made Manchester United No. 14 a start and 12 substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
Lingard has scored two goals in those games.
Newcastle are likely to be safe from relegation and PIF would look to build the club from next season.
Lingard is now at the peak of his game and may be tempted to move to St James’ Park and be part of a special project.
