Newcastle United have been encouraged to try and sign Chelsea talent Conor Gallagher.

The England international has established himself as a proper Premier League player after a brilliant loan spell at Crystal Palace last season.

However, it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old will get the regular football he needs for his development at Chelsea in the 2022/23 season.

A midfielder is arguably what Newcastle need more than anything this month and there is speculation the Magpies will indeed bring him to St James’s Park.

Eddie Howe has said that he will not sign a midfielder just for the sake of it, but that it has to be a player who will benefit the Reds in the long run.

And former Liverpool and Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique has gained weight Twitter to point out that the Chelsea youngster is absolutely ‘perfect’ for the Anfield team.

Palace have been linked with the player’s signing, but so have Newcastle United.

Gallagher obviously already knows Selhurst Park, which gives the Eagles a small advantage you can imagine.

However, Howe is building a very exciting project in Tyneside and any player would love the chance to be a part of it.

Also, the Magpies have far more resources and financial clout, making them a real threat.
