Newcastle want La Liga star Bruno Guimaraes said will ‘terrify opponents’ in 2020

Newcastle are one of several English clubs looking to lure Barcelona forward Memphis Depay back to the Premier League. Bruno Guimaraes was already full of praise for Depay in 2020 – and could now build on him.

Depay, 28, only joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Lyon last summer but has fallen down the pecking order. Ronald Koeman left and Xavi joined – as did a number of newcomers including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyamg.

The Dutch star has not started a La Liga game since December 4 and although injury has prevented him from doing so – so has Xavi. In fact, he has come on as a substitute in each of Barcelona’s last five La Liga games.

Super Deporte Report that Newcastle – along with Everton and Arsenal – have started talks to sign Depay by making a request. Newcastle star Bruno is a big fan of Depay, having played with him at Lyon.

“He’s a player opponents don’t like to face, he scares them. We respect him a lot, he’s our captain, a very important player. To be able to count on him is really great,” said Bruno in 2020. after GFFN.

Bruno on Depay: Would be a sensational signing for Newcastle

The two-year deal Depay signed at Barcelona was a bit peculiar. It means the attacker will enter the final 12 months of his Barca deal – allowing clubs to perhaps snap up Depay for a bargain fee this summer.

Considering Barcelona signed him for free, it will be interesting to see the fee they want for Depay. But he would be a monumental commitment, a real face for the Toon project. Whether he would join Newcastle remains to be seen.
