Newcastle United are showing interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby – but he looks set to stay in Germany.
That’s according to Julien Maynard of Telefoot, who claim that Newcastle want to bring in Diaby before Monday’s transfer deadline.
However, unless Newcastle make a hefty bid for Diaby, it seems likely that Leverkusen will resist the temptation to sell.
Leverkusen has signed Diaby until 2025, so the German side is not under selling pressure in the coming days.
In addition, Leverkusen is pursuing a Champions League spot and they have no intention of selling Diaby.
The French winger has been in brilliant form this season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 26 games.
Against Augsburg on Saturday, Diaby scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 win, tormenting the Augsburg defense with pace and devastating finish.
The 22-year-old worked his way through the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain before deciding to move to Leverkusen in 2019.
Now one of the top wingers in the Bundesliga, Diaby just got on the pitch and he’s gone.
Imagine Diaby on one wing and Allan Saint-Maximin on the other? That would be an absolute nightmare for any Premier League defender.
Diaby has been hailed as ‘wonderful, irresistible and incredible’ in Germany, and a big move away from Leverkusen is likely to come at some point.
It seems very unlikely that Newcastle will be able to execute the deal before Monday, but there could be scope for the summer.
If Newcastle stay in the Premier League, they are likely to buy new signings – and Diaby could be one of them.
The only problem for Newcastle at that time was that Diaby could continue to shine and of course attract interest from bigger clubs.
Diaby is certainly an ambitious target for Newcastle, but one that is unlikely to come to fruition within the next few days.
