Newton’s Dragon and Phoenix received zero out of five points for food hygiene
A CHINESE restaurant and two takeaways have been rated zero and one star for food hygiene following recent inspections in St Helens.
Dragon and Phoenix, a Chinese restaurant in High Street, Newton-le-Willows, received a zero out of five rating following a November 2022 review, according to the Food Standards Agency website.
With a score of zero to five, food processing companies receive food hygiene ratings after an inspection determines how well they comply with food safety laws.
The rating reflects the standards of food hygiene as determined by the local authority at the time of inspection.

The evaluation at Dragon and Phoenix revealed that improvements are needed in the hygienic handling of food.
Significant improvements were reported that were needed for the cleanliness and condition of the building, as well as for food safety management.
A food hygiene rating of zero also suggests that the company could directly endanger people’s health.

In December, Fortune House Imbiss received a one out of five star rating for food hygiene.
The Higher Parr Street Chinese Takeaway was identified as in need of improvements in terms of hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the building.
Significant improvements were also identified as necessary for food safety management.
Food standards inspectors also visited Gelato Royale Express in December, which also received a poor one-star rating in its food hygiene inspection.
The inspectors found that the American Diner on McCormack Avenue needed improvements in terms of hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of the building.
Significant improvements were identified as necessary for food safety management.
For food processing businesses such as restaurants, cafes and takeaways, Dragon and Phoenix is the only business in St. Helens with a zero food hygiene rating.
There are currently seven restaurants, cafes or takeaways with a one-star food hygiene rating.
