The technical director of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Scott Sellars, announced The Express & Star that the club are now in talks with alleged Arsenal target Ruben Neves over a new contract.

Sellars has said Neves, who has been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window, will be on the radar of a number of clubs.

The Wolves official said the Portugal international was “ambitious”, adding that the Premier League club are negotiating a new deal with the 25-year-old.

The London evening standard reported this month that Neves is a long-term Arsenal target.

The sun claimed in February that Arsenal are keen to sign the Portugal international in the summer transfer window.

The report added that Wolves valued Neves at £45million.

Sellars tells The Express & Star via Neves: “We obviously speak to him and we all know how much he loves playing for the club. We know how much he’s settled here, but he’s also an ambitious young man.

“As with all players you try to have an open dialogue with them and their representatives to find the best scenario for the club and the player.

“Quite rightly, elite clubs across Europe will have Ruben on their radar, but we have an excellent relationship with him and will do things properly and collaboratively when the time is right.”

Could Arsenal sign Ruben Neves from Wolves?

In our opinion, it will be difficult for Arsenal to sign Neves from Wolves now that talks over a new deal have started.

Wanderers clearly don’t want to sell the Portuguese in the summer transfer window.

Now, of course, Neves will not agree to a new deal, but the fact that Wolves want him to sign new terms suggests they would not find it easy to negotiate with their Premier League rivals when Arsenal call.
