It’s bridesmaid season.
While it’s certainly the time of year to watch Christmas movies, there seems to be a growing number of HBO Max users who choose to enjoy a movie based on a different celebration. Climbing streaming giant HBO Max’s most-watched charts, 2011 comedy Bridesmaids doesn’t appear to be following a trend.
According to streaming service Flixpatrol’s statistics page, Bridesmaids is the 10th most watched list. Bridesmaids is unique on the list because of the other top 10 films, the fewest countries contribute to its ranking. The film is in 12 countries, while the top of the list, Black Adam, is at 40.
Black Adam was unbeatable when it debuted on the streaming service, but Bridesmaids is the only adult comedy in the top 10. The rest of the films are dramas or heavier themes like Dune, Don’t Worry Darling and The Batman. But for some reason Justin Bieber’s Believe is in ninth place.
Bridesmaids (directed by Paul Feig) tells the story of Annie (Kristen Wiig), whose life is certainly not going too well. As soon as she receives the news that her best friend Lillian is getting married and she’s been asked to be the maid of honor, Annie hops onto her new duties. Helen, one of the other bridesmaids, is also close to Lillian, and the film becomes a battle over who can be the bride-to-be’s better friend.
Bridesmaids holds the special honor of being one of the highest-grossing female-led comedy films. This film was not only popular with cinema-goers. The film also received critical acclaim during awards season and was nominated for two Oscars at the 2012 Oscars, for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.
