Operation Deep Freeze unveils new map, operators, packages and marketplace

It’s time for an all-new season in Rainbow Six Siege and this time Ubisoft has prepared a surprise. It’s Operation Deep Freeze (Y8S4) and will change the face of much of the game for many players, especially newer players who are just starting to get into Siege. There’s a new operator that some might consider OP, a map that will make life difficult for defenders, and an entirely new marketplace that allows players to trade items on a peer-to-peer basis.

There’s plenty of content awaiting you in Operation Deep Freeze, which launches worldwide on November 28th. Until then, users still have a few more chances to unlock everything possible from Operation Heavy Mettle, the current season in Rainbow Six Siege. It’s a testament to Six Siege’s staying power knowing that the game has been around for almost a decade, but Ubisoft is still investing resources into the game.

Ubisoft is touting some changes, including grenade adjustments, controller remapping options, and a “Defender AI” playlist meant to replace THunt, putting players in the hot seat against a stack of AI-controlled enemies. It’s meant to mimic more casual, less stressful games and be a great way for inexperienced players to train. That’s a mission presented throughout – Ubisoft has been actively adjusting its “onboarding” mechanics to more effectively welcome new players into the game.

Operation Deep Freeze is also getting a brand new map, Lair. This map is unique and is set in a dingy cave hidden from prying eyes. It is a secret base that offers many advantages for attackers – and poses a greater challenge for defenders. It features a rotation of four bomb sites and many tight turns.

It has been argued that the jewel of Operation Deep Freeze lies in the form of the new operator, a 2-2 defender named Tubarao, a Portuguese figure. Almost overwhelmed, he carries his “Zoto Canister”, which can stick to most surfaces and instantly release a freezing, ice-like substance that disables almost any device, makes footsteps visible through surfaces, and slows or prevents almost any attack.

He has an MPx and an AR-15.50 as his primary weapon, both of which are powerful, and his secondary weapon comes in the form of a P226 MK 25. His Nitro Cell and proximity alarm devices only serve to make his already impressive arsenal even more powerful.
