Oregon High School sparks fury after asking students to write adult ‘sexual fantasies’

An Oregon high school has sparked outrage after a teacher asked students to write about their “sexual fantasies,” including three objects such as candles, massage oil and feathers.
Students in the health class at Churchill High School in Eugene were asked to make up missed coursework by completing a 10-point assignment called “Fantasy Story.”
The task is: “Write a short story of one or two paragraphs for the absent students. This story is a sexual fantasy that will NOT have penetration of any kind or oral sex (no way to pass an STI).
“Your story should demonstrate that you can show and receive loving physical affection without having sex.”
Teacher Kirk Miller gave the students the task via Canvas, an online learning management system, and asked them to do the same Select three items, such as candles, massage oil, feathers and flavored syrup, to use in their stories.

After the task was posted to a Facebook group, it received hundreds of comments from parents.
One said: “If a grown man asked my daughter to share her sexual fantasies with him I would get angry and go to the police. No teacher has the right to ask this of a child.’
Katherine Rogers, whose 16-year-old daughter is in Mr Millers’ class, said the students felt “embarrassed, awkward and creepy” after being given the assignment.
She said some students chose to answer the fantasy task from the point of view of a character from the cartoon “Kung Fu Panda” to avoid getting too personal.
She told Oregon Live, “The district reviews these syllabi before approving them, right? Did you really read that? If this was checked, how did it slip through the cracks? I could imagine this easily becoming a national scandal.’
Following parental outrage online and at school, Principal Missy Cole sent a letter saying Churchill High’s administration was working with the district office to review the health curriculum “to check the context of the assignment.”
For now, the assignment has been removed from the curriculum and will not affect student grades, the Eugene 4J School District has confirmed.
In a statement to the New York Post, Melanie Davis, the program manager for the health curriculum used, called Our Whole Lives, said the district is pursuing an “unauthorized” and “out of context” supported group activity that is currently out of print.
As part of the same health class with Mr. Miller, the students were given an assignment entitled ‘Who would you do it with?’, according to parent Katherine Rogers.
She said the instructions for the task were: “On the handout, list the initials of a man or woman with whom you would conduct each activity. You can use the same person for multiple activities.’
Her daughter wasn’t in class that day, but was told the project included a virtual spinning wheel labeled with sexual categories.
Students were reportedly instructed to react when the wheel stopped.
