Original Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns says Donovan Patton looked after him when he had COVID

Original Blue’s Clues host Steve Burns recently revealed that his co-star Donovan Patton showed up and took care of him while he was ill with COVID.

The 49-year-old actor told PEOPLE that he and Patton – who took over hosting the children’s show when Burns left in 2002 – “have been friends for a long time”.

Burns continued, “I know his family. He took care of me when I had COVID. He wheeled Gatorade down the hall to his guest room for me.’

Patton, 44, happened to have had COVID before Burns, so he was all too familiar with the symptoms.

When they were both doing well again, the longtime friends ventured to New York City to film the Blue’s Clues film titled Blue’s Big City Adventure.

During their free time in New York, they would head to the set to watch Blue’s Clues’ newest host, Joshua Dela Cruz, film his scenes.

“It was fun to see what he’s capable of,” Patton said of Dela Cruz. And then I was amazed at how that translated into the film, actually also because I didn’t know how it would turn out when I saw it,” he explained.

“That impressed me. It filled me with the purest form of jealousy because this man is incredibly talented,” Patton said of Dela Cruz.

Patton, 44, took over the reins from Burns as Blue’s new pal Joe in 2002 when Burns left the series.

Steve hosted the original Blue’s Clues from 1996 until his sudden departure in 2001…where his character Steve abruptly left to go to college, leaving his brother Joe (Donovan Patton) at Blue.

Burns revealed in an interview after his departure, “I knew I wasn’t going to do children’s television my entire life, mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a children’s television show, and it happened quickly.”

He added that he shaved his head the day after filming his final episode – revealing the show’s producers would never allow him to do so.

In a 2016 interview, he added, “A lot of the original people on the show, like the people who created it, all went on to other careers. It just felt like time.’
