Original Starsky & Hutch star David Soul wants him and his co-stars to star in the new Fox reboot

Just days after it was announced that Fox was developing a female-lead reboot of Starsky and Hutch, one of the original stars has come forward.
David Soul, who played Detective Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson alongside Paul Michael Glaser’s Detective Dave Starsky, apparently struggled with the reboot.
The original series ran on ABC for four seasons from 1975 to 1979 and followed the title characters, detectives as they fight crimes in a bright red Gran Torino on the streets of the fictional Bay City, California, with Antonio Fargas playing their informant, Huggy Bear.
The show was also rebooted in the 2004 feature film of the same name, in which Ben Stiller played Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch, with Soul and Glaser both making cameos.
Now that the show is on the way to a reboot — which is still in development and no final decision has been made — Soul took to Twitter and suggested that he and his co-star return to stardom … rather than the new ones female characters.

“Every article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not just reboot Paul and I – as a couple of old farts solving risqué crimes at the assisted living facility we would now be living in? Who does Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?” Seele tweeted.
The tweet received over 31,000 likes, with original Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter lending her support and responding to Soul’s tweet, “I would look into that.”
Variety film critic Joe Leydon tweeted, “Don’t give up baby!” while comedian Dave Foley added, “Sounds great. Can I play the 60-year-old upstart who thinks he knows everything but hasn’t seen anything? PS watched every episode of the original.’
The reboot, described as a “modern reinterpretation” of the original, follows two female detectives, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson.
While the original show took place in Bay City, the reboot is set in Desert City, where the duo “solve crime while staying true to their friendship and awesomeness.”
In addition, “they are trying to unravel the mystery of who sent their fathers to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.”
The original report didn’t clarify whether or not Sasha and Nicole are actually Dave and Ken’s daughters for the original, although it certainly could be a possibility.
The reboot will be written by Sam Sklaver (Prodigal Son) and Elizabeth Peterson (The Resident), who will also serve as showrunners should the series go ahead.

Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn told The Hollywood Reporter that he expects to have at least two scripts by Sklaver and Peterson before making a decision on whether or not to proceed with the series.
Fox is also developing Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry’s Jenny Is a Weapon and Barbie Klingman’s Doc.
A Chicago native, Soul worked fairly regularly in the 1980s after Starsky and Hutch went off the air, but he relocated to England in the mid-1990s to begin a new career as a performing artist in London’s West End.
He has not appeared in film or television since his cameo role in the 2013 film Filth, starring James McAvoy.
Glaser hasn’t publicly responded to Soul’s tweet, and he’s also acted sporadically in recent years.
He had a guest appearance on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie in 2019 and most recently appeared in an episode of Ray Donovan that same year.
Glaser was also an Associate Producer on the hit ABC reality series Shark Tank from 2010 to 2014.
The actor has branched out into a life as a painter and digital artist, opening his first solo show at the Cosmo Lofts in Hollywood in April 2018.
