Packers Sign Former WR Director Sammy Watkins for 1 Year Agreement: Report
The Green Bay Packers have finally acquired a veteran wide receiver for Aaron Rodgers’ passing arsenal for next season.
Based on ESPN’s Adam SchefterThe Packers are signing former Kansas City Sheriff and Baltimore Ravens deep-threat recipient Sammy Watkins to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million after hosting an agent visit. free 28 years old on Thursday, April 14.
Watkins is having a disappointing season with the Ravens that has seen him finish with career lows in receptions (27), receive yards (394) and touchdown (one), but he’s also a Super Bowl winner with eight experienced NFL seasons on his résumé, who could help reintroduce some pace into the Packers’ reception room following the departures of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling this season.
The biggest trouble for Watkins was staying on the pitch as his 2014 rookie season was billed as the only year he played every regular game of the season. He has been sidelined for four games in 2021, three through injury and missed 14 aggregate games in three seasons playing with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It is therefore possible that Packers will include some form of incentive in the new Watkins contract.
The Packers’ primary receiving team currently includes Sammy Watkins, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers for next season, but it’s highly likely that the team will add at least one more recipient in the upcoming 2022 NFL draft . The only other deeps behind their four core expansions are Juwann Winfree, Chris Blair, and Rico Gafford – hardly a suitable weapon set for the four-time NFL MVP.
