The final stars could be arranged for the New England Patriots and Odell Beckham Jr. Just months after the former NFL All-Pro tore his ACL in the Super Bowl while playing for the Los Angeles Rams, Beckham is said to have had “exploratory talks” with the Patriots about a potential free agent deal, each NFL Insider Dov Kleinman.

Is it finally time for Beckham to come to New England?

Beckham said he was close to signing with the Patriots after he was released by the Cleveland Browns and elected to sign with the Rams, where he won a Super Bowl.

Things didn’t work out after that, but the upcoming season could be a better time for the OBJ-New England connection.

Beckham Jr proved he can still be productive last season. In eight games with the Rams, excluding post-season, Beckham has won 27 305 yards and five TDs. In the knockout stages, Beckham added another 25 catches in 4 games with 316 yards and 2 TDs.

He could have been on his way to the Super Bowl MVP title against the Cincinnati Bengals if he hadn’t torn his ACL mid-game.

When Beckham went down, he caught 2 passes that were 52 yards long and a point. With the Bengals seemingly trying to arrest Cooper Kupp, Beckham is burning down Cincinnati High School on his way to a strong start.

While Beckham looks strong throughout the 2021 season and in the knockout stages, there are some obvious reasons to be a little cautious about his possibility of going to Foxborough.

Beckham has a history of troublesome injuries

Not only did Beckham turn 30 in November, but he has now suffered two torn ACLs in his career. The first happened in October 2020 on his left foot. He tore the ACL in the same knee during the Super Bowl.

To say it was troublesome would be an understatement. Even if he has made a full recovery from this latest serious injury, the Patriots cannot realistically expect him to return to the field before some time in November, perhaps after the recipient turns 30. on November 5th.

There is a lot to consider with this signing, both positive and negative.

Potential advantages of a deal for Beckham

On the plus side, it doesn’t look like Beckham will be able to command a hefty salary because of his injury history. In fact, the Patriots should have a good chance of landing him on a one- or two-year contract full of game-time-based incentives.

It could be similar to the deal they just made to deal with Trent Brown, just with a lower level of safety. Brown has a two-year, $13 million deal, but only $4 million in the contract is guaranteed. The Patriots have the potential to launch after the upcoming season with a $1.25 million cap and a large portion of the contract tied to game-time incentives.

Beckham’s deal could take place in the same ballpark, but perhaps even just a year.

If Beckham can recover, even if he misses the first 2.5 months of the season and lands on a team that provides them with the wide-reaching presence they desperately need, it could be a big win for the Patriots.

New England desperately needs a No. 1 receiver to help Mac Jones and offense take the next step in 2022. While the Patriots seem certain to address this need in the NFL Draft, having a veteran with Beckham’s ability and a continued return to pike will have invaluable potential.

For now, negotiations are exploratory, but this seems like the best potential chance the Patriots finally have to sign Beckham after some false alarms in the past.
