Patriots coach has begun trade talks with rival AFC

Matt Patricia

Matt Patricia looks on

His acquisition of DeVante Parker was a driving force behind the New England Patriots getting through the game as they prepared for the 2022 NFL season.

Player HR Manager Matt Groh met with the media on Friday, and when asked about the Parker purchase, he credited coach Matt Patricia for his interest in going behind the wide receiver.

“Definitely, it kicks in when they add another player and then where are they with their massive studio,” Groh said on Zoom, referring to Miami’s deal for Tyreek Hill. “And then there is the opportunity to add a great player to our roster.

“They won’t be able to just keep everyone, and when a player becomes available, I would say Matt Patricia did a great job of getting in early and getting that information out to us as quickly as possible. We joined so early, and it actually came together very well for us. We’re really excited about having DeVante here. ”

Face switch

Patricia is the driving force behind the Parker trade that shows how things have changed in New England. While primarily a defensive coach in the NFL, Patricia is currently active as an offensive coach in 2022. Patricia has not coached an offense since 2005.

At the annual Owners Meeting, head coach Bill Belichick selected Patricia along with Joe Judge because several coaches would help replace Josh McDaniels.

“It’s great to have Joe Judge back and of course Matt. They’re two really good coaches along with some other coaches we’ve offended – Nick Caley, Troy (Brown) etc, who were here last year. We’re working on the issue and we’ll do the best we can here. “

Patricia served in a different role last season. He spent the 2021 season as a senior football advisor.

“Matt has done a lot of different roles for us,” Belichick said via NESN, “and he helped me out and organized a lot.”

The head coach also mentioned that he is not too worried about Patricia and the others switching sides of the ball they coach.

“We’ve had a lot of coaches take on a lot of responsibility,” Belichick said via NESN. “Josh and Brian Daboll defended and then they attacked. Matt is violating and is going to defend. etc. So I’m not really worried about that. I think a good coach is a good coach, and Matt is a great coach. Joe is a great coach. They will help us no matter what position they train. ”

Not big on title

Even as the NFL season continues to draw closer and closer, no one knows exactly what role coaches play in the offense. Belichick said Patricia, Judge and every other Patriots aide will have “defining roles,” but he declined to say what those roles would be.

“I don’t care about the title,” Belichick said. “We have work to do. We will do the job. “

But whatever crimes Patricia may have committed, he deserves credit for helping New England get Parker. Patriots coach has begun trade talks with rival AFC
