The New England Patriots narrowly lost 27:24 to the Green Bay Packers, but the future in New England is bright.

With Mac Jones out due to an ankle injury, the fans’ hopes of victory were already slim. That meant Brian Hoyer would be the focus for the Patriots.

hoyer threw just 37 yards before being forced to go to the dressing room due to a head injury. That injury would take Hoyer out in the first quarter and bring Bailey Zappe in from the bench.

It was a powerful moment for Zappe. Playing at one of football’s most historic stadiums, the rookie scored his first snaps of the regular season under center.

The pressure didn’t seem to be there zap. The rookie quarterback completed 10 of his 15 passes for 99 yards. That included a beautiful touchdown pass to DeVante Parker, where Zappe floated the ball to his receiver

“Of course it was exciting at the beginning, a dream come true to play in an NFL game,” Zappe said after the game, “obviously it wasn’t the result we wanted.”

While it’s unknown if Zappe will get another chance to play in Week 5, the quarterback is looking forward to doing his job and helping New England.

“Just keep doing my job,” said Zappe when asked what he could take away from his performance. “Take the ball to the playmakers and let them do what they do best in space. Keep staying cool, calm, and collected back there, lead the offense, and really just do what’s best for the team.

With his touchdown pass, Zappe became the first quarterback to throw a touchdown in the 2022 NFL draft class.

What was said about Zappe after the game?

With his performance, Zappe was the focus of many questions and captain after the game David Andrews praised the rookie quarterback.

“Proud of the way he (Zappe) came on … thrown into the mix in a very hostile environment against a really good defense,” Andrews said.

head coach Bill Belichick was also pleased with the rookie’s performance.

“I thought he fought well,” said the coach.

Zappe even got a shoutout from Matthew Judon in his postgame presser.

“I just want to give Zappe a big shout out. Not a lot of reps… he did a damn good job for us.”

What’s the Patriots QB situation like?

With Jones struggling with a serious high ankle sprain and Hoyer with a head injury, the rookie looks to have the inside lane at the interim starting position.

The good news for Patriots fans is that it appears Jones avoided surgery. The Alabama quarterback could be out for a while, but the injury doesn’t appear to be as serious as once thought.

For Hoyer, his situation is more of a waiting game. New England needs to see how he recovers from his head injury and if he can do so before Week 5 comes around.

But Zappe started his career in a difficult situation, but he was able to show a good performance.
