Patriots rookie Ross Reiter Ranked as Team’s Worst Player

Ross Reiter

Who is the worst player on the New England Patriots squad? According to WEEI’s Andy Hart, it’s the reserve long snapper rookie Ross Reiter.

Hart has ranked every player currently on the Patriots’ list from worst to best, and Reiter is 87th on the list.

In a brief explanation of Reiter’s modest place in his ranking, Hart wrote: “no disrespect, but a spare long snapper is a spare long snapper. .”

It’s true, a reserve long snapper probably won’t rank high on any team strength ranking, but it should still be considered the least valuable part of an NFL team. In many ways, isn’t this a little worse than being Irrelevant Grandpa?

After all, Irrelevant still has a chance to make a solid career for himself? Ryan Succup is Mr. Irrelevant and he played a major role in the Super Bowl champion – albeit a kicker.

Reiter has won numerous awards during his time at the State of Colorado for his agility. The Patriots head coach has long had a love for special teams, so if anyone’s going to fall in love with a 6-foot 235-pound spare long snapper, it’s Hoodie.

More patriot news: New England signs third series QB

The Patriots reached their third series QB on June 23 when they signed Western Kentucky’s Bailey Zappe. After Zappe threw 62 FBS-record TD passes in 2021 to the Hilltoppers, the Patriots selected him in the 4th round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Zappe will be behind Mac Jones and Brian Hoyer in the Patriots QB order. However, Patriots fans should watch Zappe in action during the pre-season. If nothing else, he could become Jones’ long-term backup and perhaps trade the same decoy as Jimmy Garoppolo.

Back in 2017, Garoppolo secured a second-round pick for the Patriots in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. If that’s what ultimately happens to Zappe, the Patriots should be glad that it means Jones continues to improve and the WKU product has evolved enough to become a commercial asset.

New England Signs Rookie WR Tyquan Thornton

The Patriots are busy with the signing of the announcement on June 23. New England have also made public their deal with rookie wide consignee Tyquan Thornton. The Patriots’ pass game should have more weapons than in 2021.

Thornton’s game breaking speed helped him count 10 TDs as Baylor’s senior in 2021. During his 4 years at Waco, Thornton had 19 TDs. The hope is that he can use his pace to stretch the field in a way no other Patriots team can in 2021.

Veteran receiver Nelson Agholor was supposed to threaten the Patriots down the line, but after signing a two-year, $22 million deal for the season, the 29-year-old managed just 37 receptions with 373 yards and 3 TDs.

Thornton is younger, cheaper and he has more advantages. Those factors will give him a great opportunity to get some playing time and perhaps cost Agholor.
