Paul Merson insists Tottenham are still a one-man team with Harry Kane and if Heung-Min Son doesn’t show up they can still win.
The former Premier League title winner has previously claimed to be through Sky Sports that Spurs can’t tick and collect three points without Kane.
But on the final day of the Premier League season, Antonio Conte guided the club to Champions League football.
Their South Korean star played a big part in that as he finished the season as joint top-scorer alongside Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
Merson was reminded of his comments that Tottenham are a one-man team given what Son has done and He told Sky Sports News.
“Harry Kane makes them tick,” Merson said. “If I say, he shows up and plays alone. Harry Kane has to play. He has to show up and play.
“If Harry Kane doesn’t show up and play. You are not the team. If Son doesn’t show up and play, Tottenham will still show up and win.
“Don’t get me wrong, Son is a very good player. I think he’s top draw. He’s not leaving Tottenham.”
TOTTENHAM IS MORE THAN A ONE-MAN TEAM
Every team has a player that without them can collapse or not reach the very, very high levels that they set out to do.
Liverpool really capitulated last season without Virgil van Dijk so there’s nothing wrong with a side relying so heavily on one player.
But there are other Spurs players who deserve credit, from Son to their summer signing Cristian Romero, who was out of this world in defence.
Dejan Kulusevski is another for bolstering that Tottenham attack that was already record-breaking with the combination of Son and Kane.
In other news, Gary Neville still believes the Tottenham man wouldn’t fit at Manchester United
