Penn Badgley Explains His Problem With Filming Intimate Scenes With You!

Penn Badgley reveals what makes him really nervous about sex scenes.
As you’ve probably read, the 36-year-old actor has been vocal about being uncomfortable filming such NSFW scenes. He even asked earlier this year You Creator Sera Gamble to omit the intimate scenes altogether:
“I asked Sera Gamble, the show’s creator, ‘Can I just stop doing intimate scenes?’ That’s actually a decision I made before I took part in the show. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned her publicly, but it’s one of the most important questions, ‘Do I want to go back in my career? The way I just always play the romantic lead?’”
With romantic comedies like John Tucker must die And Simply A Bottom line, Joe definitely has a lot of experience with love roles! But now he’s done. He has now said he didn’t want spicy scenes to spoil his relationship with his wife Domino Church. But what scares him so much about the scenes?

In its Thursday episode pod crushed On the podcast, the Joe Goldberg cast member actually had the former showrunner as a guest, and they went into detail about how the entire conversation went. Sera said:
“It wasn’t a very difficult conversation for me. No one said, “I refuse to do anything”… My job in this conversation was just to figure out exactly what you were asking about and what was making you uncomfortable… We’re not about to say, “Get undressed and touch yourself.” Someone when you know you don’t want to.”
Exactly! However, Penn added that this kind of thinking is unfortunately “not common” in the industry:
“When people say, ‘What about murder?’ The thing is, folks, I don’t kill anyone. Finally, there is one thing that cannot be simulated, and that is physical touch. It just depends. It’s like not everyone has to do this in their job.”
He has a good point! Directors can easily make it seem like his character is going to kill someone – but when it comes down to it, they can’t make it seem like he’s getting up close and personal with someone unless he’s actually!
And luckily for him, Sera fully understood his point of view:
“The two people in this conversation are me and you. We do the show together. At that point we had been there for many years. And it’s just like this: let me understand. My job is simply to let me understand the parameters and then come back with a plan.”
It sounds like they hit it off wonderfully on set!
