Pennsylvania is one of the states with the largest gun industry

Pennsylvania is among the top 5 states in the country with the largest gun industry

In 1934, Congress ratified the National Gun LawLegislation requiring guns to be registered and taxed.

On the surface, the law’s goal was to cut the money that the burgeoning industry brought in. But there was also a secondary motive: to restrict the sale of guns that were subsequently used in crimes by charging gun buyers a $200 fee.

In the decades since, the NFA has remained essentially unchanged. Many still see it as a way for the United States to regulate how many guns are put on the market and in the hands of its citizens.

While the creators of the NFA no doubt designed it to control the growth of the gun industry, sadly they failed to do so. This is partly because the $200 tax has never increased, and while that fee used to be prohibitive, many people can now afford the one-time payment.

The importance of the gun industry, fueled by an ever-increasing demand for guns, has only increased in the decades since Congress ratified the law.

an estimated one 393 million firearms are currently in private hands in the United States – more guns than the entire population of the country. In 2016, the US made one all time high of 11.49 million firearms. That number has declined in recent years (to around 7 million) but is still more than double the 1986 figure. Firearms imports have also increased, with Turkey, Austria and Brazil consigning more than 100,000 euros 3.78 million weapons in the USA in 2020 alone.

Gun ownership and industry vary, as does gun culture itself. The degree to which the gun industry is entrenched in a given state is not just dependent on how many firearms people buy. It also has to do with the number of dealers and whether the manufacturing takes place in the country.
