Son Heung-Min is two goals away from equaling a 73-year-old Tottenham Hotspur record and becoming the north Londoners’ top scorer against Brentford on Saturday.
Spurs visit the Bees in the Premier League this weekend as the battle for Champions League qualification continues. Antonio Conte’s men could find themselves out of the top four by kick-off at Brentford Community Stadium against Arsenal in a 12:30 clash.
The Gunners drew level on points with Tottenham after winning 4-2 at Chelsea on Wednesday night. Mikel Arteta’s side could now put renewed pressure on Spurs if they host Manchester United at lunchtime while Conte’s side play in the evening.
Tottenham have had an outstanding record against Brentford in all competitions in the post-WWII era. Spurs have won ten times, including each of the last three, and have been unbeaten since March 1948. The Bees won 2-0 in an old Division Two clash.
Spurs and Brentford have only met once in the Premier League before Tottenham won 2-0 in December. Sergi Canos broke the deadlock after 12 minutes with an own goal before Son scored just after the hour to give Conte his second win as Spurs manager.
Son had scored in a Carabao Cup tie against Brentford in January 2021, which Tottenham won 2-0. Moussa Sissoko opened the scoring after 12 minutes in the semi-final before Son sealed a place for a Jose Mourinho side in the final which Manchester City would win 1-0.

Son is the only current Tottenham player to score for Spurs against Brentford ahead of Saturday’s game. Nuno Espirito Santo has sold Sissoko for Watford £3 million last August. The 32-year-old has captained the Hornets since October and has scored two goals.
However, the pair make up two of the 23 different players who have scored for Spurs against the Bees since WW2. They are also responsible for three of the 33 goals Tottenham have scored against Brentford in their last 16 ties. Son is also just one of six to have scored multiple times.
Len Duquemin holds the record for most Tottenham goals against Brentford since the end of the Second World War. He scored four times in six games against the Bees between 1947 and 1949. And of those four, he scored three during their first meeting with a Division Two hat-trick, hat-trick.
Eddie Baily broke the block at White Hart Lane before Duquemin extended the lead to win 4-0. His fourth and final try against the Bees came during Spurs’ 4-1 away win in Division Two in August 1949 between goals from Les Bennett and a double from Les Medley.
Son could now equal or eclipse Duquemin’s 74-year record of four Tottenham goals against Brentford with a brace or better on Saturday. That £22 million The former Bayer Leverkusen striker is set to arrive in west London during Premier League games.
The South Korean megastar has recorded six goals and one assist in his last four top-flight games. His performance has seen Son record 17 goals and seven assists in 29 league games so far this season. Alan Shearer also described his hat-trick at Aston Villa as ‘perfect’ earlier this month.
