Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd attend UNICEF Masquerade Ball

In a new Instagram story, Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd gave her fans the latest IVF health update. She got quite emotional in the video as she talked about what she is currently doing and how hard it is because her husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy is away.

Peta admitted that this was the first time she really had problems

In the video, Peta updated her followers on where she is on her IVF journey. She and husband Maks have viable embryos and are awaiting implantation day, but she is really struggling with her last round of injections.

“This is the first time in this whole IVF thing where I’ve struggled a bit,” said the dancer. “Of course, in the end, of course, the hardest part is getting what you want, which is this beautiful baby.”

She then showed the size of the needle she uses for her progesterone shots, which she had just started, and said she “got emotional” because Maks was gone and she had to take them on her own.

“I was looking at the injections and I was like, ‘Holy shit.’ My God. It’s really big and I forgot what intramuscular means. I remember the nurse saying to me, ‘Oh, you might want to get your husband to do these for you, and I said, ‘No, I’m fine. I’ve done all the other needles, I’m totally fine.’”

But then when she saw the size of the needle, she broke down a bit.

“Maks left this morning and it has to be ready before 10am…when I got up this morning and saw this in the package I was like, ‘Oh my god.'” Peta said.

“[The shot] is in the butt, which is good, but it’s really hard to turn around that much. Like I’m flexible, but holy crap. Arching my back to get the meatiest part of the butt is one hell of a challenge. And then of course the whole needle has to go in, you can’t just put half in,” said the dancer.

She eventually had to remember all the women who have done IVF multiple times

Peta said what finally led her to give herself the shot was remembering what other women went through trying to conceive a baby.

“I kept saying to myself, ‘Peta, put it in. Be thankful, get on with your day, stop crying,'” she recalled. “People do that four or five times, I literally thought of all the women who’ve done that multiple times, I said, ‘Stop being a f***ing baby. go on.’ That’s what brought it. That’s what it did, I was like, ‘You’re just a baby.'”

She then said she was sorry to go on such an “unexpected foray” but she’s very hormonal at the moment.

“Everything’s up, I’ve quadrupled my estrogen, I’m still on aspirin, I’m starting antibiotics… what else. I have three more pills to take and with all this other vaginal stuff it’s a lot,” Peta said, adding, “So that was an unexpected foray. I wasn’t expecting to get emotional but like I said I’m very hormonal at the moment.”

Peta and Maks have been candid about their fertility struggles for the past few months. They suffered three miscarriages in two years, one of which happened during Peta’s time on season 29 of Dancing With the Stars. Peta said it was incredibly difficult for her and that Maks really broke down when she had her second miscarriage.

But they are currently very optimistic about having another baby. They shared during an Instagram live stream in July that they have plenty of viable embryos and implantation is just around the corner.

Dancing With the Stars returns to Disney Plus this fall for its 31st season.
