Peta Murgatroyd shares future DWTS plans

A baby bump.

A DWTS pro plans to compete in season 32.

Pregnant Dancing With the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd is due out in June 2023, but she has no plans to leave the show after giving birth — not even for one season.

Murgatroyd competed in season 31 – though she and partner Jason Lewis were eliminated in week one – and though she’s preparing to welcome a newborn, she says she wants to return for season 32, which is scheduled to begin in late summer or early fall 2023.

“I’d like to be if they want me,” Murgatroyd said Us Weekly. “I’m here, I’m ready. I will give birth and rejoin within the seven weeks that I have spent with Shai. I’ve returned with Nick Viall this season and I’d love to do it again,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Murgatroyd’s husband Maks Chmerkovskiy left DWTS in 2018 and has no plans to compete. In an episode of The Real, Chmerkovskiy explained that he changed after becoming a father. “Your chemistry changes when you have a kid, things look different, they seem different,” he said.

Here’s what you need to know:

Peta Murgatroyd competed in Season 22 while pregnant

Murgatroyd often recalls taking part in “Dancing With the Stars” when she was pregnant with her first child. She danced with Nyle DiMarco in season 22 and while it wasn’t always easy, this year the pair managed to take home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.

“I was so sick”, Murgatroyd to People magazine in 2020. “Nyle watched me fall asleep on the couches and on the floor of the rehearsal room. He looked at me like, ‘What’s going on?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m just tired,'” she recalled.

Murgatroyd confirmed her second pregnancy on January 13, 2023. “It gives me great pleasure to finally announce that @maksimc and I are expecting our Chmerkovskiy #2,” she captioned an Instagram post. Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy are parents to 6-year-old son Shai.

Peta Murgatroyd did not compete in Season 30

If Murgatroyd chose to sit out a season, it wouldn’t be unusual for them. She chose not to compete in Season 30, telling fans that she wanted to spend time with her family instead.

“As many of you know, after 10 years on @dancingabc I will not be returning for season 30. While I will miss being a part of the show, I look forward to continuing to focus on other projects and my business endeavors. along with spending time with family,” she captioned an Instagram post at that time.

Her post seemed very suggestive that she was retiring from the show.

“Since moving to Los Angeles in 2010, DWTS has been a special part of my career. Since the age of 17 I have made my living as a dancer and entertainer and have built a life in another country of which I am now a proud citizen. Even though I’m retiring from the show now, I still love the dance and will keep dancing (I still feel like 25 haha). I’m working on some new projects that I know you’re going to love, so that’s for sure [sic] no goodbyes,” she continued.

However, she returned the very next season.
