Pete Carroll’s ‘passionate’ caption at NFL meetings

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is said to have commanded the room for at least a moment during the NFL’s annual league meeting. His agenda? Overcome the need to support hiring minorities.

The Seahawks coach may well have ruffled a few strands in a room filled with the NFL’s most influential minds.

But that hasn’t stopped some from offering blunt reminders to those in charge. According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll gave a “passionate speech” about the NFL’s struggle with diversity during league meetings in Florida last week. .

One source said that Carroll’s comments were strong enough to upset those present in the audience to the point of anger. Another source wasn’t sure if the Seahawks coach’s remarks really caused the anger of those in the room.

The lack of minority hires has been a top issue on the NFL’s coaching carousel at the end of the year, and especially this season with the lawsuit against former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. Flores has revealed some of the behind-the-scenes issues he feels first-hand as a minority trying to land a top coaching contract in the NFL.

It was clear things were at odds with Pete Carroll, enough to prompt the Seahawks coach to issue his own stark reminder.
