Peter Kay is hosting the first standup tour for the first time in a decade

Comedian Peter Kay has confirmed his comeback tour after more than a decade away from the stage.

A new commercial airing during a break during I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! revealed the funny man is returning next month.

The 49-year-old will be releasing tickets for his much-anticipated return on Saturday, five years after canceling a tour.

The performer was scheduled to embark on a major tour from April 2018 through the summer of 2019, but it was cut short in December 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances.”

It’s his first live tour since 2010, when he set the Guinness World Record for best-selling run of all time, playing to more than 1.2 million people.

The new tour will start in Manchester on December 2nd this year and will run until August 11th.

Peter Kay said: “It’s good to be getting back to what I love to do, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time when people need to laugh, it’s now.

“And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices start from £35 – the same price as my previous tour in 2010.”

He recently wowed audiences when he reportedly performed a “secret” comedy performance for select audiences, but his public comedy performances have been few and far between over the past decade.

Peter performed at a theater in Salford in October and had “new material” for the lucky fans who were invited.

Paula, who is a fan of the comedian, took to Twitter to share her experiences at the exciting ‘secret’ shows.

She wrote: “Oh my god I just went to The Lowry for a secret gig with Peter Kay. The best night of my life, this guy is a legend. Phones in locked lintel, secret ticket collection, the whole bunch. Still humming.’

Other Twitter users reached out to Paula for more details, but she remained vague, replying: “It was the weirdest but best experience ever. He’s just such a grounded guy. The gig was really raw and unpolished which made it so personal.’

Fans have been waiting for Peter’s return to the stage for years after he retired from the spotlight in 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

The surprise announcement shocked the 1.7 million people across the UK and Ireland who managed to snag tickets to see the comedian.

The father-of-two was set to earn up to £40million hosting 109 Nights in cities including Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, London and Dublin from April 2018 to March 2019.

He said at the time: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand up tour, Dance for Life shows and any pending live work commitments.

“My sincere apologies. This decision was not an easy one for me and I am sure you will understand that my family must always come first.”

This week, Peter Kay took a woman diagnosed with terminal cancer out to lunch before restarting radiation therapy.

Laura Nuttall, 22, recently had her fourth major surgery but her mother said the tumor had grown back.

But to a stunning surprise, Kay took the family out to a Michelin-starred restaurant near Burnley for lunch on Friday.

Laura’s mother Nicola called the lunch “a very special treat” and described the comedian – who played his first gigs in four years in 2021 to raise funds for Laura’s treatment – as “the kindest, most thoughtful and of course hilarious person”. She added: “We are lucky to have him as a friend”.

Laura was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme in 2018 – the most aggressive form of brain tumors.

Defying initial predictions that she had 12 months to live, she ticked off various goals including graduating this summer, competing in the Great North Run and hosting a BBC weather forecast.

Her mother also tweeted, “Laughter won’t cure glioblastoma but it’s definitely a darn good distraction for a few hours.”

Earlier this year he hosted his Dance For Life show, with all proceeds going to cancer research.

Peter started in Manchester in April, one of his few performances since his record-breaking The Tour That Doesn’t Tour…Now On Tour, which ended in late 2011.

And fans were happy with his performance as many shared their reaction on social media, with some even saying it was “emotional”.

The event was billed as a “dance-a-thon party” that will save lives – with Peter also taking to the DJ seats during the show.

He was previously set to make a comeback with the series of Dance For Life shows in April and May 2020 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

But the events had to be postponed in March last year due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Tickets for Peter Kay’s nationwide tour go on sale on Saturday 12th November at 10am via www.gigsandtours.com and www.ticketmaster.co.uk. Tickets for Belfast and Dublin are available from www.ticketmaster.ie.
