Rangers have joined Norwich City in the battle to sign Ross Stewart Northern Echo The Sunderland striker could reportedly return to Scotland.
Apart from Kemar Roofe’s hat-trick against St Mirren, Rangers’ recent games have done little to allay concerns from fans who fear a future without Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.
Stripped of their tonka truck talisman, the Gers have been as blunt as a Poundshop steak knife in back-to-back defeats to Celtic and Braga – two defeats that threaten to turn a promising season into a trophy-less one.
Like Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Co., Morelos still has a little more than 12 months of contract. And the Colombia international recently poured a gallon of petrol on the pyre of speculation when it was revealed he had hired a new agent.

Stewart would certainly have big boots to fill. But with 22 goals for a Sunderland side chasing promotion – the second most in England’s third tier – the Ayrshire-born powerhouse has actually netted more than Morelos in 2021/22.
Stewart is also out of contract in the summer of 2023.
And according to Northern Echo, its potential availability hasn’t gone unnoticed. Rangers have joined goal-shy Norwich City and have expressed interest.
The report adds that Sunderland boss Alex Neil has put contract negotiations on hold until the end of the season. The Black Cats in the middle of a Top 6 fight. You can do without any distractions.
“Everyone talks about Ross Stewart’s goals,” Portsmouth coach Danny Cowley said recently of the former Ross County man (timeline).
“But the way he defends from the front is why I think he’s the best forward in the division.”
Interestingly, the Rangers target had a spell at Celtic before the Old Firm giants decided to release him.
