PlayStation acquires esports platform Repeat.gg

Sony Interactive Entertainment is acquiring Repeat.gg, an esports technology platform, as its ambitions in this space continue to grow.
Repeat.gg is one of the largest esports tournament platforms in the world and helps users compete for cash prizes in online games. In addition, it organizes asynchronous e-sports tournaments that allow players to participate in games even if they are not online at the same time.
The Company can automatically track players’ in-game stats and award them based on their performance. Repeat.gg shared the news on a blog, saying it has always focused on “esports for everyone” and has no plans to end that mission anytime soon. Why was a takeover approved?
“We will have access to more resources, game titles, and technology that will allow us to grow the team to propel Repeat in directions we never thought possible,” wrote Repeat.gg’s Jeff Shull. “This will allow us to significantly expand Repeat with many new features over the next few years and continue our mission to become synonymous with esports by creating a home where everyone has a chance to compete and win.” .”
Although Repeat.gg was acquired by PlayStation, it still plans to support “PC, mobile and other consoles alongside PlayStation”.
Since its inception, Repeat.gg has hosted over 100,000 tournaments with more than 2.3 million participants. PlayStation is obviously very excited to bring this experience to its team.
“Our vision for eSports at PlayStation has always been to break down barriers for players to compete at all levels,” Steven Roberts, vice president of global competitive gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment, told GamesIndustry.biz. “Together with the talented team at Repeat.gg, we look forward to exploring more ways for players to engage in competitive gaming and expanding the breadth of our eSports offerings. This is just the beginning of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future.”
This is another step forward in esports gaming for PlayStation and follows the acquisition of the Evolution Championship Series, the world’s largest fighting games tournament. It also follows news that PlayStation has finalized its deal to acquire Destiny developer Bungie.
