You cannot catch Genesect in the wild and it must be caught in five-star raids. They will take place during the week starting January 15. It is a very rare Pokemon that will not be easily defeated unless you know its weak point. Since it varies depending on the item it’s holding, there are five different categories. These are normal, nausea, shock, burns and chills.

Genesect is a bug and Pokemon of steel. It is quite intolerant of everything except fire, which will deal a huge 256% damage. This is quadruple damage, so you need to stock your party with Pokemon that are hard to burn. Most everything else only settles 63% of it. The five strongest Pokemon that you can use against it are Reshiram, Chandelure, Darmanitan (Standard), Volcarona, Blaziken.

As for the counter, then try to stick to the fast-fire and charge-type attacks. Fire swirls, fire fangs, and overheating are moves that so many Legendary, fully evolved Fire Pokemon will work on. The flamethrower is also one of those that will deal a lot of damage.

Genesect itself also has some pretty powerful moves. Except, metal claws and magnet bombs are two things to watch out for. Fury cutter is a quick move in its arsenal, dealing less damage. Its main move can also deal a large amount of damage.
