Police find mother with 10-year-old son in bedroom; Get nervous when they see what’s around them

A woman’s family worries when they realize she’s been in the house for quite a while. Confused, they called the police to check on the mother and her 10-year-old son.

When they get there, they see her with the boy in the bedroom. Things got worse when they realized what was next to the two of them.

For a while no one heard from Sommer Leann Hyatt, she didn’t take calls from her home in Arkansas. The 32-year-old mother had been withdrawn in recent days, which was uncharacteristic of her, especially as her son hadn’t been seen by anyone either.

Because they were both uncomfortable and concerned, the Saline County Police Department was called and showed up at the house just to check on them on April 13 when they found a bedroom scene they weren’t exactly expecting. Then her brother shared a disgusting confession his sister had told him, which answered a looming question.

Hyatt and her little boy were both found alive, but they were in a bed together. According to Arkansas Online, the mother acted lethargic, looked pale and had trouble communicating with officers. Her son appeared to be having the same problems and symptoms as her, but it wasn’t immediately clear what the cause was until they looked at the nightstand by the bed.

Investigators noticed two open bottles of medicine labeled Alprazolam and Sertraline, which the couple believed to have consumed. However, this only happened after taking Xanax, as Hyatt’s brother told police.

The mother had taken 50 Xanax bars, Hyatt’s brother told a sheriff’s deputy, citing information his sister gave him before police arrived. A first responder informed the deputy that Hyatt may have given their son Xanax as well.

According to the affidavit, authorities found two uncapped medicine bottles — one labeled Alprazolam and one labeled Sertraline — on a bedside table.

The mother and her son were taken to the hospital, where they are recovering from the horrific ordeal and are finally able to speak to the police. Hyatt admitted she tried to kill herself and her child by overdosing on the medication, about which she had warned the boy’s father, who is his legal guardian, twice in the last year. Luckily, their attempt to pull this off failed when the authorities intervened in time.

Following her release from the hospital on Monday, Hyatt was arrested and sentenced to the Saline County Jail on charges of attempted capital murder, implantation in someone else’s body and endangering the well-being of a minor.
