Police officers arrest a 20-year-old man at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of attempted murder

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man at Heathrow Airport “who was trying to flee Britain” on suspicion of attempted murder after four men were hit by a car in west London.

Met Police responded on Taunton Avenue in Hounslow around 2.43am Sunday after receiving reports that a car collided with four pedestrians.

Officials said the driver of the car did not stop at the scene.

The four men, all in their early 20s, were taken to hospital, where two are in critical condition.

The other two sustained injuries that were deemed life-changing.

A Metropolitan Police statement said officers arrested a 20-year-old man at Heathrow Airport just before 7pm on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder.

“He had booked a flight and was planning to leave the country,” the police statement said.

“A second man was also arrested nearby on suspicion of aiding and abetting a perpetrator.”

The vehicle involved in the accident, a Nissan Qashqai, was found by police in Hounslow a short time later.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Thrower said: “This was a serious incident which will have shocked the local community.

“Two men are fighting for their lives in hospital and our thoughts are with them and their families. Officers acted promptly to identify a suspect.

“The arrest – which happened as the man was attempting to fly out of the UK – is a timely and crucial development in this ongoing investigation.

“We will continue to work at pace to determine what happened and bring justice to the victims. I continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
