Police spot ‘drunk’ white van man driving at least 10 miles on freeway on TWO tires

A white van man has been arrested after allegedly driving drunk on a freeway for at least 10 miles with only two tires.

Shocked police in Swansea, south Wales, stopped at 2am at Laurie Alan Rosser, 42, from Gorseinon, to find both a rear and front tire missing from one side of his vehicle.

The van was impounded after being spotted on the M4.

Mr Rosser was arrested at the scene after allegedly drinking twice the legal alcohol limit.

Police officers were praised for their “tireless efforts” by other drivers on social media.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “Just before 2am on Sunday 26 June, South Wales Police officers stopped a van traveling on the M4 between junctions 46 and 47.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

“Laurie Alan Rosser, 42, of Gorseinon, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle while above the legal alcohol limit.

“He has been released on police bail and will appear at Swansea Magistrates Court on Wednesday 13 July.”

It comes after a mother drove over the legal alcohol limit four times to take her seven-year-old son 25 miles to the beach in North Wales.

A court heard last month how Sadie Smith, 47, was spotted stumbling around and “slurring her words” at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

A court was told Smith had set out to find a beach with her son in her Saab Index after spending the night drinking.

Dashcam footage showed her driving erratically – before plowing around a roundabout and onto a grass verge.

Footage shows she narrowly missed crashing into a road sign while attempting to drive from Meols, Wirral, to Flint, North Wales.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said a concerned witness called police at noon on March 19 when they saw her car swerve down the road.

Smith, who cried as she viewed footage in court, was arrested after she was found inside the McDonald’s restaurant in Flint Retail Park.

Judges in Wrexham heard she gave a breath count of 139 – the legal limit is 35.

The court heard that Smith had been drinking the night before and had had some alcohol in the hours leading up to her departure.

Stephen Edwards’ defense attorney said it was “a real wake-up call” for Smith, who has been using alcohol “as a crutch” to cope with problems.

The court heard she accepted that she was “risking her life” by trying to do something good for her son.

Ms Flavell said Smith has “found it difficult to ask for help” but is now seeking support in her community.

The court also heard how the charges resulted in Smith losing her 23-year career.

Smith, from Meols, Wirral, was given a 12 month community directive and has to do 300 hours of unpaid work.
